Footnote is a BigCommerce app that shows AI labels on the product images
a merchant chooses. This policy says what it stores, why, and for how
long. "We" means the person who runs it, named at the end of this page.

## What we store about your shoppers

Nothing. Footnote's storefront script sets no cookies, uses no browser
storage, runs no analytics and sends nothing about the shopper anywhere.

Its one request is for a public file listing which of your images carry
a label and how the label looks. That file holds your store's ID, never a
shopper's. Cloudflare, which serves it, handles the shopper's IP address
to deliver the file and to stop abuse through rate limits, as any web
server does. Footnote does not log or keep it.

Because the script collects nothing, it is registered in BigCommerce's
Essential consent category, so labels show whatever a shopper picks in
your cookie banner.

## What we store about your store

| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Store hash, API token and the permissions you granted | To call the BigCommerce API for your store |
| Store language, country, currency, timezone, domain and BigCommerce plan | To format dates and to know which storefronts exist |
| Your storefronts (channels) | To put the label script on the storefronts your plan covers |
| Product image details: image and product IDs, image address, filename, alt text and when BigCommerce last changed it | To list your images, match your house rules and find each image on the storefront |
| Suggestions, with the reason for each (a matched word in a filename, or the tool named in an image's metadata) | To show you why an image was suggested |
| Your decisions: each image's label, any note you add, who decided and when | This is what puts a label on the storefront |
| The activity log: every change of label, who made it, when and why | So you can show how you label. It cannot be edited |
| Badge settings, wording, house rules and app settings | To show the label the way you set it up |
| Subscription status, plan and trial dates | To know which features your plan includes |
| Webhook event IDs | To avoid processing the same event twice |

On Pro, the metadata scan reads your image files from BigCommerce to look
for signs of AI, such as Content Credentials. We keep what it finds, not
the file.

We hold no payment card details. Billing runs through BigCommerce, on
your store invoice.

## What we store about your team

For each person who opens Footnote: their BigCommerce user ID, email
address and language, and any language they pick in Settings. Decisions
and the activity log refer to the user ID, and show the email address
next to it in the app.

## How we use it

To run the app: authenticate requests, read your catalogue, apply your
settings, show your labels, and send service emails about your
subscription. We do not sell data, share it for advertising, or use it to
train AI models.

## Who else handles it

| Provider | What for | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Cloudflare | Hosting, database, the public label file, email delivery | Global network |
| BigCommerce | The platform the app runs on, and billing | As set by your BigCommerce agreement |

## How long we keep it

While the app is installed. Uninstalling deletes your store record, and
with it your image list, suggestions, decisions, activity log, settings
and subscription record, and removes the label script and the public
label file. Download the activity log first if you want to keep it.

Removing a user from the app deletes their record, unless they still use
Footnote on another store.

Diagnostic logs are kept for 7 days. They hold store hashes, routes and
error messages, never access tokens or anything about shoppers.

## Your rights

You can ask for a copy of your data, a correction, or deletion. Under UK
and EU data protection law you can also complain to the Information
Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) or your local regulator. Email
[footnote@pouchapps.com](mailto:footnote@pouchapps.com) and we will reply within 30 days.

Footnote helps you label images. It does not decide which images the law requires you to label and is not legal advice.
